HARTFORD HOG CHAPTER #1124 - ABC's of CONNECTICUT 2010

This contest is open to all active HARTFORD HOG Chapter members and begins January 1, 2010 and ends the 1st Saturday of December 2010, with the prizes awarded at the monthly Chapter meeting on held in December 2010.

NOTE: This contest is NOT part of the National HOG ABC's of Touring.

Using the famous DOT Ride Connecticut Official Motorcycle Map as an aid, there are 169 cities and towns and 407 villages and boroughs that begin with the letters 'A' to 'W' and 'Y' (there are NO letters 'X' or 'Z').

Riders earn 1 point for submitting 1 photograph, either digital or print, representing the first letter of a unique city, town, village or borough.

Each photograph must CLEARLY contain ALL 4 of the following:

  1. The rider, and
  2. their motorcycle, and
  3. a 2010 issue of HOG Tales magazine, and
  4. an official city, town, village or borough sign, such as:

A government sign with the name of the city, town, village or borough, like ‘City Line’, ‘Town Line’, 'Entering', 'Welcome To', ‘Settled’, ‘Founded’, ‘Since’, 'Limits', 'Leaving', 'Thanks for Visiting' (mileage signs or directional signs do NOT count) OR;

A government building with the name of the city, town, village or borough, like a city hall, town hall, fire station, police station or post office (libraries and schools do NOT count) OR;

A Harley dealer’s name and building may designate the city, town, village or borough where the dealer is located, so GENGRAS H-D counts as an 'E' for East Hartford.

Solo riders may not be able to include themselves in 1 photograph, so their motorcycle's registration plate, if CLEARLY identified on their motorcycle, will be accepted, along with the HOG Tales magazine and the official sign, ALL in the same photograph.

Extra points:

  • 1 extra point for any city, town, village or borough NOT on the famous DOT Ride Connecticut Official Motorcycle Map
  • 4 extra points for ALL 4 corner cities, towns, villages, boroughs -- Salisbury, Thompson, Stonington, Byram;
  • 6 extra points for ANY 6 cities, towns, villages, boroughs, that when combined, spell H-A-R-L-E-Y;
  • 8 extra points for ANY 8 cities, towns, villages, boroughs, that when combined, spell D-A-V-I-D-S-O-N.

Total potential points: 169 + 407 = 576 plus extra points.

NOTE: some cities, towns, villages, boroughs do NOT have any official signs.

Riders are expected to ride their motorcycle to the city, town, village or borough (motorcycles on trailers do NOT count).

Riders are expected to observe all safety procedures and motor vehicle laws when stopping to set up photographs. BE CAREFUL! REMEMBER: SAFETY FIRST!

Group rides may or may NOT stop to accommodate this contest.

Judges are the Chapter Primary Officers, whose decision is final, and in the case of a tie, a drawing will be held.

Prizes are to be determined, but all participants will surely be enshrined in the historical records of the Chapter, FOREVER.
